A dedicated IP is a sending address only you use, so your reputation is entirely your own. That sounds like a straight upgrade over a shared IP. It isn't. Whether it helps depends almost entirely on your volume.
Dedicated vs shared, honestly
A shared pool means many senders use the same IPs, so you inherit the pool's established, warm reputation from day one. A dedicated IP means the address is yours alone, with no shared reputation, good or bad. The trade is control versus a running start. On shared, you borrow warmth but carry a small noisy-neighbour risk. On dedicated, you own everything, including the cold start.
When you actually need one
The signal is high, consistent volume. If you're sending large numbers every day, enough to keep an IP's reputation active and to make owning it worthwhile, a dedicated IP gives you full control and removes noisy-neighbour risk entirely. If your volume is low, occasional, or spiky, a dedicated IP goes cold between sends and mailbox providers partly forget it, which works against you. Consistency matters as much as size here.
The warmup requirement is not optional
This is where dedicated-IP moves go wrong. A fresh dedicated IP has no reputation, so it has to be warmed from zero, gradually, exactly like a new domain. Point your full volume at a cold dedicated IP on day one and you'll deliver worse than the shared pool you just left, and possibly earn a reputation hit that takes weeks to repair. High-volume senders who want reputation isolation and control: large newsletters, high-frequency transactional systems, publishers, anyone whose sending is big and regular enough to justify owning the whole reputation.
