Two things hide under one phrase
"AI email automation" gets used for two very different products. One is AI operating email: an agent that sends, manages contacts, watches events, reads replies, and acts, with a human setting goals. The other is AI generating email: copy, subject lines, send-time optimization. Vendors blur them because the blur sells. We build for the first, and we'll tell you plainly that we don't currently do the second.
What's real today
An AI agent connected to our MCP server gets the platform as tools it can call: send templated and bulk mail, manage contacts and groups and templates, register webhooks, pull campaign stats and a reputation summary, and read and reply to inbound mail. Pair that with the automation API and the event stream, and agent-driven loops are buildable now: triage a reply, act on a bounce, escalate a complaint spike, advance a workflow when the answer arrives. Self-service onboarding, no sales call.
The part AI makes more dangerous
A human sender has natural rate limits: fatigue, doubt, lunch. An agent has none. A bad loop or a mis-scoped query can push enormous volume at the wrong list before anyone looks, and on a raw send API that's a burned domain by morning. This is why the boring layer matters more in the AI era, not less: every send here rides the reputation engine, paced per domain against live signals, suppression enforced, runaway streams contained at machine speed. The agent gets capability; the guardrails don't move.
Roadmap honesty
We're conservative about pre-announcing AI features, too much of this space is roadmap dressed as product. The direction is more of the platform exposed as agent tools: richer inbound handling, more reputation context an agent can reason over. What ships lands on what's new when it's real. Does sendmsg.io write my emails with AI?
No, and we won't pretend otherwise. We don't currently generate copy, optimize subject lines, or pick send times with AI. Plenty of tools do, and your agent can do its own drafting before it hands mail to us. What we provide is the layer AI content tools skip: making sure whatever gets written actually lands in the inbox.
Why does deliverability matter more when AI is doing the sending?
Because AI removes the natural rate limiter, a human who gets tired or suspicious. An agent in a bad loop can send 10x the intended volume to the wrong list without noticing, and a raw send API will happily oblige until the domain is burned. Here every automated send rides the reputation engine: paced per domain, suppression enforced, contained at machine speed when signals turn bad. Guardrails matter most when nobody's watching the sender.
What's on the roadmap for AI features?
We're deliberately conservative about announcing AI features before they ship. The direction is deepening what agents can do through the MCP server and the event stream, richer inbound handling, more of the reputation picture exposed as tools an agent can reason over. When something concrete ships, it'll be on the whats-new page, not pre-announced here.
